Hi everyone,

Hello,
We have been having lots of fun already here! We have had lunch, done orienteering, tree hugging and made our beds! We are just about to have dinner and then off for a campfire. Georgina says we are going to eat lots of marshmallows! James says hi to people at home! Sam LS says he's not missing anyone! William says he's having fun! We will try and post some photos of our day later. We had a great day today making animals out of potatoes using just natural materials that we found in our outside areas. We went to the conservation area and used sticks, leaves, feathers and stones to name but a few to create our master pieces. These were then entered into the Village Produce Show. Ramsay, Sam L-S, Niamh R and Georgina all won in our age group. Crazy Chicken Day15.09.17
Today we had Crazy Chicken Fantastic Friday to raise money to buy eggs that are guaranteed to hatch. It was great fun doing lots of different chicken themed activities including protecting an egg using natural resources and decorating an egg. We also did chicken themed word puzzles that proved to be a little tricky. A crazy day was had by all! We are very excited about our trip to Shortenills tomorrow.
Please make sure you have everything you need as mentioned on the kit list and know how to pack your suitcase so that you can do this by yourself for the return trip. You will also need to be able to put your duvet cover and pillow case on by yourself. We will update our class page over the next three days, so make sure you log in to find out the latest news at home. Mrs Ord As we enter the final week of the Spring Term, I would like to take one of our mornings outside for some sketching work on landscapes. Therefore, could you ensure that you have waterproof footwear with you (wellies/walking boots) and a warm coat.
If you are working on the year 3 and 4 curriculum spellings, you will be sent a list home (please let me know if you do not have one, as many people were off sick last week). The year 5/6 curriculum spelling list is stuck in your homework books. Continue with multiplication tables at home and regular reading - try and include different types of genres: Mysteries, horrors, detective stories, adventure stories, classic stories, poems etc. You should also have a letter about the nurses talk which will take place on 22nd April, again, if you do not have one, please let me know. I will need to have parental consent for this talk. Happy Easter! Mrs Ord I hope you all have a lovely half term and it is not too cold!
Please note that the first week back, we will be going outside on Thursday for an outdoor session in the conservation area. You must have outdoor, waterproof clothing for this - WELLIES PLEASE!! This links to our English lesson on Friday and if you are unable to take part, you may find Friday's lesson confusing. I am also listing the objectives we are focusing on this half term for reading. As we have now completed our first Reading paper, we will be looking at comprehension. Here are the Year 4 and Year 5 objectives for reading: Year 4: I can identify some of the features of different genres I can describe characters' personalities with examples from text. I can explain characters' actions with examples from text. I can identify some familiar literary techniques in texts I can perform scripts aloud to show my understanding I can predict what might happen in a text I can retrieve and record information from non fiction Year 5 I have read modern and traditional literature from a range of cultural heritages, including Britain I can identify some ways in which older texts and modern texts are different I can review and recommend books I can make comparisons between books I can summarise ideas and key points in fiction and non fiction I can explain figurative language Have a super week, Mrs Ord Over the next week or so, I will be adding some new information to the curriculum pages. We have now completed a term’s assessment against the New National Curriculum to present a clear picture of where the children are in terms of age-related objectives.
To support parents’ understanding of the Year 5 expectations, I will be adding some of the Curriculum statements that the children are expected to achieve in maths, reading and writing by the end of this Year. In the meantime, if you have any concerns about your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sharon Ord Welcome back and I hope you had a lovely break.
This week we have talked about New Year resolutions in whole school worship and our class worship and you made a class New Year's resolution. Please think about this and how you are going to be able to keep it over the rest of the school year. This is important as it will improve your working environment and support your learning. Our school values this half term are: Humility and Service. Please remember what these mean; we looked up Humility in the dictionary and it said 'being humble and modest'. We discussed this as thinking of others; not being overly boastful about our own achievements but to also recognise strengths in others. We linked service to people who serve us and to serving God. Our curriculum overview is attached under 'curriculum' on this page. Reminder: please remember that our PE days this term are on Monday and Wednesday and are both with the Sports 4 All coaches where we will be learning the skills of football and badminton. Spelling groups will resume next week and we will also be learning the Year 5/6 spelling words during our lessons. Have a good weekend and see you Monday, Mrs Ord |
